Description

Each of this pair of matching womens shoe buckles is oval in shape and set with a single row of with colorless pastes. At the connection with the chape and buckle surround are small paste rosettes. The buckle is silver, with a steel hinged chape and tongue.

"Mementos: Jewelry of Life and Love from Historic New England": When Prudence Jenkins married Dr. John Chace in Providence, Rhode Island, on December 12, 1778, she wore these silver buckles on her English silk brocade shoes.
