Oval chalcedony cameo brooch in gold mount, depicts woman in profile in classical costume with a garland of roses in hair, row of applied alternating scrolls and diamonds around edge of cameo, applied loop and scrolls at top, hinged pin and hook on reverse.

"Mementos: Jewelry of Life and Love from Historic New England": For her 1871 wedding to Frank Mason Burrough, Elizabeth Fairbrother wore orange blossoms in her hair, sewn to her dress, and as earrings. A beautifully carved chalcedony cameo was part of her wedding jewelry.
