Originally donated as the wedding ring of John Hancock and Dorothy Quincy, who married in the midst of the American Revolution in August 1775, recent research revealed that this ring is dated 1756 or 1766. Wedding bands were far from common in eighteenth-century America, but when a bride chose to wear a ring, this simple, thin gold band would have been a typical option.
