Mother of pearl back comb featuring on the front an scene of Asian men having tea under the trees on the left and two men in a garden on the right. The center of the comb features a shield shape with the monogram "DLR." The reverse is decorated with a floral design.

Deborah Lang married William Putnam Richardson on August 6, 1807, in Salem, Massachusetts, wearing this mother-of-pearl comb brought from China by her intended or his father, both shipmasters in the East India trade. This elegant comb is engraved on both sides and bears Deborah's initials.
