Mahogany side chair with bow-shaped crest rail and two slats all featuring pierced and carved leafage decoration, square seat with serpentine shaped front seat rail covered in a light yellow leather fastened with brass studs, square reed front legs, reed center and side stretchers, and plain splayed back legs.

This chair is one of two that descended to the donors from William Scollay (1756-1809), who built the building that gave Scollay Square its name. A label affixed to the chair reads "This chair belonged to William Scollay b.1756 (son of John Scollay b.1712), married Catharine Whitwell 1780. Their daughter Mary Scollay, born 1793, died 1882, married Dr. Jacob Bigelow 1817. Their daughter Catharine Scollay Bigelow married Francis Parkman 1851. Their daughter Catharine Scollay Parkman married John Templeman Coolidge 3d, Sept.16, 1879. Their daughter Elizabeth Coolidge married Alexander Slidell Neilson on July 22, 1918." The Neilson's daughter Elizabeth is the mother of the donor.
