Emelie Lofquist (b. 1871) came to the United States from Skana, Sweden around 1890. Upon her arrival she found a job as a maid for a family in the Back Bay. After she learned English she found a job assisting a tailor. She met Thure Nilsson [later changed to Nelson] and they were married around 1897-1898. They lived in West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain and then moved to Belmont in 1929. Shortly after moving to the new house in Belmont, Emelie Nelson made the bedspreads to be used in the master bedroom. The bedspreads were inherited by her daughter, Elna Nelson (1899-1988), who left the bedspreads to her daughter Elna Wallace, the donor.
