Cupboard. Oak and white pine. Flat top, carved dental pattern along top molding, front features two cabinet doors with carved abstract leaves in center within square frames, inlay decoration consisting of lines of alternating light and dark wood along edges of doors, long carved abstract fern in between doors, painted black baluster turnings on each side, two drawers at center with carved abstract scrolls on front, open shelf with carved dental pattern along skirt. Rests on painted black round ball feet.

"Cherished Possessions": Wallace Nutting began producing reproduction furniture in 1917. At first, his studio made small, readily affordable furnishings such as chairs and tables. In time, Nutting's ambition grew. In 1930, this reproduction Pilgrim cupboard, one of Nutting's most expensive pieces, was offered for $645. It is a faithful copy of a seventeenth-century cupboard Nutting had purchased from a member of the Parmenter family in Sudbury, Massachusetts. One hundred years earlier, a family member had cut the base off the cupboard, and thus the bottom third of the reproduction represents Nutting's conjectural restoration.
