1) Handwritten paper label pasted to inside lid: ""Edward Cotton, Son of Solomon, was born/ October 25/ 1779 died August 13/ 1819. (This box was probably a boys trade with Hoagger). The lettering was done by his brother John Cotton born June 9/ 1771 died Nov 25/ 1837 probably about 1790 among his early lettering."" 2) Printed in ink on inside lid: ""Benjamin King Hagger/ in Ear [?] 1789/ Boston April [?] 5 Day/ August 1788."" 3) Initials cardved inside lid: ""B""/ ""BE"" 4) Painted in white paint on exterior of lid: ""Edwd Cotton""
