Description

Rectangular, vertical format. A large heart outlined in blue contains half-circles of yellow (topped with blue and bottomed with yellow) on which are written in pen the names, birth and death dates of the Stanwood family. An old frame, ebonized and under glass. Watercolor on laid paper. Subject: Joseph Stanwood is listed with his three wives on the top row. Below is one child of his first wife, and 8 children of his second wife, and none of his third wife. Born 1783-1801.

Lettered in ink at the top to the bottom of the image is written: A GENEOLOGY OF JOSEPH STANWOOD'S FAMILY . Next lines read: Joseph Stanwood/Born 12th of/January 1761/Died Sep. 5 1839/ Eunise Marchant/Born 21st of August 1763/Died May 21, 1784/ Sarah Dodge/Born 27th/of/Oct. 1762/Died Feby. 27, 1810/Ruth Burnham/Born 27th/of/Oct. 1769- [the geneological record continues giving the names of their children- all 9] Written in ink at the bottom is: Atkinson Stanwood, Newburport, June 7, 1816 . In pencil, on the board backing on the upper reverse, is written: Done by Atkinson Stanwood/Newburyport June 1816 .
