A rectangular format landscape scene, with a river containing sailboats and one rowboat. On the banks of the river at in the foreground is a road leading into the picture and a grove of trees at the center, with a tall tree and cabin at the right, and a cliff to the left. In the middle ground is a spit of land jutting into the water occupied by four houses and a sailboat nearby. Green distant hills are dotted with horses and blue delineate hills in the far distance. The sky, reflected in the water, is delineated in soft pinks and blue to suggest twilight. The frame is unpainted dark wood with a gilded inner lip.
