Description

Deep rose silk brocaded with rust, pink and purple flowers; open weave patterned ground with large scale stylized (satin) fleur de lis motif; Overdress (A) - fitted, boned bodice; standing band collar edged with pink net; lapels; rose satin smocked and shirred placket conceals rose taffeta undervest with 14 self- covered buttons; long fitted sleeves, slightly gathered at shoulder; turned back cuff with rose velvet and pink net; rose velvet bow at waist; rose velvet collar (part of placket); open front; fullness gathered at back; sides lined with rose satin; sides have 2 pairs tabs with button holes, and one tab at hem (to attach to skirt) Skirt (B) - rose satin panel at front is shirred at waist, pleated, shirred midway with 2 large rose velvet bows attached, with box pleats at hem; 2 self-covered buttons at each side (for overskirt); back of rose taffeta; gathered at waist; satin ruffle at hem; drawstring and casing for bustle with 6 twill loops with silk ties above drawstring and 4 twill loops just below drawstring for holding boned bars in place (See 1969.5464D skirt by same maker); pleated taffeta dust ruffle; pocket on right side; hooks and eyes at center back.
