Description

Transfer printed in medium blue w/ a scene of pagoda-like building, bizarre trees and bushes and a camel w/ people in the foreground. This scene is enclosed by a pale blue border w/ delicate flowering vines and 8 floral-edged reserves w/ floral sprays or buildings and greenery. The scenes vary w/ form of serving item. This item is a soup tureen of squarish squat bulbous form w/ lobed sides and has conforming domed cover w/ molded leaf shaped open knop. The apex of cover is molded w/ grape bunches and one side has a "U" shaped opening for ladle. The base has two conforming molded handles at sides and "bracket" feet on serpentine base. Gilt accents at handles and knop. "Grape" devices at edge of cover and rim of base.

Inscription

Transfer underglaze and incised on bottom: Transfer underglaze: Mark in medium blue showing urn and beehive on a rectangular platform enclosed by greenery. The platform is inscribed ""ORIENTAL"". ""W.R."" is inscribed underneath ""ORIENTAL."" The name ""Ridgways"" is over the image and ""ENGLAND"" is under the image. Incised: Each piece incised w/ 2 or 3 numbers or letters.
