Fifteen of the papers appeared in the New York "Christian union." Of the five papers remaining, "Old Vauxhall gardens" was published in "Scribner's magazine, and the other four in the "Saturday review", "Longman's magazine", the "National review", and the "Library"--Cf. Prefatory note.
"This edition, consisting of two hundred and fifty copies on large paper, was printed in the month of November, 1892. This is copy no. 121. [signed] John Wilson & Son [University Press, Cambridge]"
