A note on the back of this photograph indicates that it was taken in 1886 while owned by William Sumner Appleton, Sr., son of Nathan Appleton, before the house was sold to Arthur Lyman later in 1886. The photograph shows the room of William Sumner Appleton, Sr.'s eldest daughter, Eleanor Appleton Standen, who donated this photograph.
