Historical/Biographical Note

Historical/Biographical Note

This photograph was probably taken in 1886 or earlier, before Arthur Lyman purchased the house in 1886. A note on the back of the photograph indicates that the mantel shown was removed from the Appleton house by Ronald T. Lyman, Sr. (either taken to the Vale or to R.T.L.'s home on the grounds of what is now Bentley College), and was later installed at 60 Beacon Street by Ronald T. Lyman, Jr.
