Interior photograph of a fireplace in the third floor rear chamber of the Nathan Appleton House, 39 Beacon St., Boston, Mass. This was the boyhood room of William Sumner Appleton, Jr., the founder of the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities (now Historic New England). Other Cousins photographs of the house were taken after Arthur Lyman purchased the house in 1886, so it is likely that this photograph was also taken during the Lyman occupancy.
