Description

Interior photograph of a fireplace and "Lowell" mantel in the second floor west front chamber of the Nathan Appleton House, 39 Beacon St., Boston, Mass. A note on the back of the image indicates that this is a mantel installed by the Lyman family after Arthur Lyman purchased the house in 1886. Another note reads, "Eleanor's room," probably referring to Eleanor Appleton Standen, daughter of William Sumner Appleton, Sr., who occupied the house after his father, Nathan.
