Miss Curtis was the daughter of Greely Stevenson Curtis and Harriot Appleton. She was a skater, horsewoman and involved in many civic and charitable organizations in Boston. The painting behind Miss Curtis is Gilbert Stuart's portrait of Mrs. Nathaniel Coffin. The second portrait is of Mrs. Padishawl by an unidentified artist.
