Description

Seven miles north of the city of Trois Rivieres, Quebec, are the ruins of Canada's first iron industry. Les Forges de St. Maurice was set up by French colonists, and aided by a generous grant from Louis XV, and took advantage of ore deposits that gave out around 1883. Margaret K. Zieman surveys the history of the mining industry in the great industrial city of Trois Rivieres.
