Wood bowl, or umeke, with polished interior and exterior surfaces. From Hawaii, also referred to as "calabash." Two hourglass-shaped plugs have been inserted to hold together a cracked surface - a traditional method of repair. A small Hawaiian royal coat of arms has been affixed to the outer surface. Umeke are highly esteemed and are frequently passed down as family heirlooms.
