Hon. John Appleton of Salem./born at Cambridge Mar. 29, 1739/died at Salem Mar. 4, 1817/married at Salem Oct. 6, 1767/Jane daughter of Rev. John Sparhock./He was th father of Margaret Appleton who/married William Peele./He was a merchant and ship owner of/Salem and lived in a gambrel roof house/still standing just east of the North Church/on Essex Street.
