The Louis Woodbury Photographic Collections is comprised of over 400 original negatives and prints of views of the town of Groveland, Massachusetts. Dr. Louis Augustus Woodbury was a resident of Groveland, Massachusetts. In the years before 1910, he photographed the town in its entirety with his Kodak camera, including its eighteenth-century farms, mid-nineteenth-century cottages and villas, mills, millworker dormitories, churches, and business blocks.

Collection
Louis Augustus Woodbury was born on October 1, 1844 in Salem, New Hampshire. He attended schools in Concord, New Hampshire and served in the Sixteenth New Hampshire Volunteers during the Civil War. He graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1871 and settled in Groveland, Massachusetts, where he practiced medicine until he retired in 1911. He was the author of several titles on local history, genealogy, and biography, including works about Groveland, Bradford, and Haverhill.
