Inscription

Fabric belonged to Catherine Atkins Eliot (wife of Samuel Eliot). Note that accompanied the fabric stated. "A piece of a dress of my great grandmother Eliot's afterwards made up into a dress for my grandmother, and then to me by my father on my grandmother's 84th birthday when I was 11." (on front) "...which my great grand - [continued inside] father liked so much that when she gave it up he had this piece hemmed and kept in one of his drawers all his life. "Grandmama when she was a very little girl has a dress made of the rest of her mother's dress. She told me this on her 84th birth-7th Sept. 1877, when Papa gave me this piece, which Grandma had given him when he was a boy."
