Side chair. Shield back form. Mahogany with inlay, black haircloth upholstery. Shield back enclosing five tapered and curved bars radiating from a fan of inlaid satinwood and mahogany. Stringing of ebony and satinwood in a rope pattern. The stiles are slightly shaped and widen at the top where they connect to the crest. Seat is upholstered over frame, serpentine in front and swag-tacked. Tapered front with satinwood inlay having bellflower drop at top. Rectangular H-stretchers and a stretcher between the legs. After the Hepplewhite splat design, plate 2, 1788 edition.
