"Cherished Possessions": In the second half of the eighteenth century, Benjamin Burt was second only to Paul Revere in the quantity of silver he produced. Trained by his father, silversmith John Burt, Benjamin Burt was without question one of Boston's most successful silversmiths. This cann, with the the coat of arms of the Fayerweather family, was made for the Cambridge resident Thomas Fayerweather sometime around 1760. The silver mug nearby was made by Burt's father for Fayerweather's parents.
