Easy chair, upholstered body with wooden legs. Federal style with turned front legs and rectangular back legs. Pale gold upholstery with floral lattice pattern. Circular arms with tufted fronts. The original location for the chair was in the Guest Room at the Sarah Orne Jewett House in South Berwick, Maine.

After Sarah Orne Jewett suffered a stroke in 1902, her family moved her from her quiet bedroom tucked away at the back of the house to a bright room in the front, from which she could watch the comings and goings on the towns busiest streets below. To one side of her bed was a daybed. To the other stood this upholstered wing chair, which had once belonged to her grandfather and now provided comfort in the last few years of her life.
