Pair of Pedestals. Rosewood, gilt, brass. Circular platforms top pedestal bases. Upper section of pedestal composed of rosewood columns with gilt acanthus leaf capitals and that surmount rosewood bases supported by lower gilt acanthus leaf bases.
Lower section of pedestal composed of trapezoidal rosewood base with inset panels bordered by brass stringing. This portion sits atop gilded acanthus leaf mounts. Pedestals rest on roswood plinths with canted corners.

Used in Cherished Possessions 2003-2005: These rosewood and gilt pedestals, made for Nathan and Maria Appleton's new home on Beacon Hill in Boston, Massachusetts, were called candelabri and were designed to hold lamps or candles. The elaborate materials used on the pedestals -imported rosewood, ornamental brass mounts, and extensively gilded carvings-were clear signifiers that their owners could afford the best.
