High-post bedstead. Front posts have Marlborough feet over simply molded blocks. Faces of posts below rails have light wood stringing and inlaid light wood and ebony fans in corners. Replaced brass bolt covers. Post above rail is rounded and reeded; comprised of urn form below elongated reeded urn. Front posts have l' at top plain (covered by valence). Shaped painted cornice; black background with repeated gold foliage and red flowers. Low triangular headboard. Plain headposts. Modern mattress and spring. Attributed to Langley Boardman of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. So called "Lafayette bed".
