Centennial Acquisitions Exhibiton, October 22nd-23rd, 30th-31st, 2010:
Cecilia Beaux, one of Americas leading portrait painters of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, is often compared to John Singer Sargent for her technical skill and ability to capture character. Here, she portrays Helen Kremer, a great-great-granddaughter of John Langdon. After the death of her husband in 1920, Kremer moved to the Langdon House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and lived there with her two sisters. She was the last Langdon descendant to reside in the house.
