One of twenty-five fragments of the French scenic wallpaper "Les Sauvages de la Mer Pacifique" (also known as "Les Voyages du captaine Cook"). The scenic is loosely based on the celebrated events of Captian James Cook's exploration of the Pacific, which brough the captain to his violent death there in 1779. This fragment depicts the inhabitants of Otaheile. Printed in 5 greens, 2 blues, yellow, 2 oranges, red, ochre, and two browns.
