Centennial Acquisitions Exhibiton, October 22nd-23rd, 30th-31st, 2010:
Gertrude Beals Bourne’s studio, which her husband, architect Frank Bourne, had created for her, was located on the top floor of their Queen Anne-style house, known as Sunflower Castle, on the flat of Boston’s Beacon Hill. With exposed beams, comfortable furnishings, and an open hearth, the room reflected the couple’s Arts and Crafts aesthetic. Both Bournes celebrated the Colonial Revival style-Gertrude in her paintings of old houses, and Frank in his architectural designs.
