Description

This large rectangular basket is woven from ash splints-- naturally colored and swabbed blue and green-- in a checker plainweave pattern. It has carved wooden handles set at the short ends of the rectangle and a carved wood rim held in place with a single ash splint lash. The weaver used smaller splints to form the base, with wider splints forming the weavers on the sides. This basket is of Native American manufacture.
