Women's dress

Description

Pale peach faille two piece women's dress with ivory lace, crochet, crepe, and brown fur trimmings. The jacket style bodice has three-fourths length puffed sleeves with floral lace and crepe cuff trim and diamond-shaped smock stitch on the outside of each sleeve. The shoulder of the puff is split and contains crepe inserts to add body. A lace panel with a floral and bow garland swag pattern with scalloped edge is attached around the neckline and drapes over both shoulders and across the back. The wraparound collar is attached to the right side of the bodice and has four hooks and eyes at the back. It is silk lined with four horizontal bands of faille and crepe. The faille outer portion of the jacket is fitted through the bust and waist and flares below the waist. The lapels are open to reveal an inner attached bodice. It has seventeen alternating hooks and loops up the center. The inner bodice coves to a v-point at the bottom and is trimmed around the edges with faille strips. It is lined in silk with an outer layer crepe. On the right side there is a garland patterned lace jabot attached down the front along the enclosure. On the inside of the bodice are nine stays. Also on the inside is a ribbon belt with a hook and loop closure attached to the back of the bodice at the waistline. On the back portion are three loops for the skirt attachment and a maker's label in orange thread which reads "R.A. McCormick, Boston" and is surrounded by a coat of arms symbol on the right and an eagle and shield symbol on the left. The lower portion of the bodice is pleated and also weighted at the bottom of all five seams. The back of the bodice jacket is fitted at the waist and then flares out over the hips. The lace with floral and bow swags drapes over the shoulders halfway down the back. The full length skirt is made from the same faille material as the bodice. The skirt has a simple waistband with a sewn in tag at the back "Mrs. Peabody." There are three hook and loop closures at the waist. There appears to have been a four hook and loop closures running vertically, but all the hooks and two of the loops are missing. The skirt has a crochet pattern all around the bottom hem. The fur trim along the bottom hem has been entirely eaten by CB (except for one tiny piece on the right back hem). The back of the skirt is longer than the front creating a small train.
