Description

Ivory lace and lavender silk ribbon bed jacket. The jacket has wide bands of floral lace separated by bands of lavender ribbon. The jacket has a large shawl like collar with a lavender ribbon bow at the neck. Under the right collar lapel a small linen handkerchief was pinned into the folds of lace. The sleeves are fitted to the elbow then the sleeves flare out and are split to the wrist. The jacket ties at the waist with a lavender ribbon. The upper part of the bodice has a thin ivory silk lining, closed by four mother of pearl buttons. Attached to the top button hole was a tag marked "Mrs. Stephen Phillips." The outer lace and ribbon layer covers the lining with five evenly spaced hook and loop closures. There are cloth arm shield sewn into the inner silk lining. The back of the jacket has the same lace and ribbon design as the front. The back bottom section under the waist is slightly shorter than the front panel. The handkerchief has a small flower embroidered in the bottom left corner.
