Description

Cream colored wool shawl with colorful embroidered border and motifs. The shawl is rectangular with a narrow frayed fringe around all four sides. The cream wool is finely woven and has a sheer quality. There is heavy and colorful decorative cotton embroidery that forms an interior rectangle. The border has two parts: The outside of the border is a repeating pattern of black vines and multi-colored leaves and flowers all in a row. The inside of the border is equal in width to the outside. It is much more heavily embroidered with a repeating pattern of floral motifs and paisley designs intertwined with smaller leaves and flowers. In between the inner and outer border is a narrow band that contains a repeating pattern of scalloped edges or shell shapes. In all four corners of the inner rectangle there are heavily embroidered large paisley shapes made up of flowers, leaves, berries and vines. In one corner there is a small design embroidered with cream thread. The main part looks like a cross, but on the top part, above the cross bar on both sides there is a vertical line. Also from the top of the cross, there is an extra little hook that gives the top line of the cross a u-shape.
