Description

Bound album (front board detached), stamped "Photographs--Herbert Lyman." Approximately 30 leaves, with (in general) 4 3 x 4 albumen prints affixed to each page. Date appears to be prior to major alterations to the Vale, completed (approx) in 1884. Annotations, in ink, have been supplied at a much later date, since photo of Ella Lyman Cabot is annotated with her name, (as a married woman), though the photo likely was taken before her marriage to Dr. Cabot. The annotations seem to have been made by a family member (i.e. Aunt Anna Lowell)..Of particular interest (and importance) for documenting the landscape of the Vale circa 1880, including a view across the pond of the house. Many views of agricultural activities, family members, incl. A. T. Lyman as an infant in 1894. It is possible that this date holds for the entire album, though this seems unlikely, since Ella L. (later Cabot) is depicted at various ages. Also shown are outbuildings, Boston scenes, one view of the parlor with the Hanes furniture.
