Description

Portfolio of B&W gravure plates of Providence, RI published in nine parts by the W. J. Parish Publishing Co in 1896. Parts 1 & 9 are missing. 42 plates with 62 images. Each part is stamped on the front right lower corner "Gift of Franklin Reed, 1984."
Plates of Providence, showing landscapes, downtown cityscapes, residential streets, commercial and public buildings, waterfront, Roger Williams Park, Brown University and religious buildings. Accompanying each part is a history of Providence with discussion of the founding of the town, government, parks, cotton industry, and education. Images are very clear with lots of historic detail. Excellent quality.
