Description

"Hattie (L?)eema Hutchinson Paine, Boston" - inscribed on flyleaf. Undated.

Carte de visite album, badly frayed (boards) of particular interest because of its apparent relationship to Spritualist practice (2 images depict what may be spirit boards of some type). Also includes tintypes and the inscriptions of some later family member describing individuals as "Marm's" (mom's?) Of unusual interest is a carte de visite of a bearded woman, or a man dressed as a woman. It is not clear which. An effort to determine who/what this image represents was made by contacting the donor. A reply was received from Mrs. Ellie Bolton which indicated she knew nothing about the sitter.
