A hand colored exterior view of the three-story Federal-style Larkin House on Middle Street in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Also known as the Larkin-Ladd House, Larkin-Richter House, and Dr. Richter House, bookseller, publisher, auctioneer, and privateer Samuel Larkin built the house in 1815 with the proceeds from the sale of vessels captured during the War of 1812. Henry Ladd later owned the house. The front door is surmounted by a fanlight and set into an arched surround. A Palladian window in a blind arch crowns the front door. An eagle knocker adorns the front door. A wrought iron fence surrounds the property.
