Geo.: Large: Mass.: Salem: Derby House
GUSN-195475
A view of the front façade of the brick Georgian-style Richard Derby House in Salem, Massachusetts. Icicles hang from the eaves of the gambrel roof, and snow covers the ground in front of the house. The door surround is in the Doric order and crowned with a pediment. Two stringcourses demarcate the first and second floors. The oldest surviving brick house in Salem, Captain Richard Derby built the residence in 1761-1762 for his son, Elias Hasket Derby, and his new wife, Elizabeth Crowninshield.
