Ephemera: Trade Cards and Advertisements: Wallpaper (Greg Smart)
GUSN-195495
The trade card for the art wallpapers of E. G. Higgins & Co. at 284 Main Street in Worcester, Massachusetts features elaborate floral and geometric patterns. A woman in Greek-style attire reclines on an armchair near a column and a large flower pot. A bird that appears to be a heron stands among reeds on the shore of a body of water. Elon Galusha Higgins learned the wallpaper trade in 1847, eventually started his own business, and built the concern into a large wholesale and retail firm. He moved his company to 284 Main Street in 1880 and incorporated as E. G. Higgins and Company in 1893.
