Yi-hsing reddish-brown stoneware, slab built, unglazed, globular form, top and bottom rim trimmed with a narrow band of rivet-like raised decoration; incised Chinese characters on bowl; flat lid with an incised YIN-YANG symbol on round knop; downturned spout, rounded handle.

1) Accord. to NFL article, characters on bowl translate: ""The green pine tree over the stone is eight feet tall. Written in winter by Tzu-Yin"". 2) Impressed on bottom underside: Chinese characters which read [per NFL]: ""Yu-Lan"" [name of potter], ""Mu Chi"" [secretly made] 3) Paper labels on bottom underside: ""N. F. LITTLE"" and ""Chinese / stoneware / from estate / Capt Oliver / Lane - Annisquam / 1825-1850"". 4) Note on index card (in accession file): ""Yi-hsing teapot owned / by Capt. Oliver G. Lane / of Annisquam. Poetic / sayings in the form of / calligraphy were fav- / orite forms of decora- / tion.""
