"The 'Fisher' View of the Harvard Yard. / Engraved in 1823 / The original painting by Fisher hangs I think in / the President's Room in University Hall. It shows / the Yard as it appeared during the early part of the 19th / century before the class had grown. / The special print has had an interesting history. It was bought / by my father Stephen H. Phillips, Class of 1842 and hung in his / room at Mrs. Wares near the present Curtine Hall of the Law School. / He let my uncle Charles A. Phillips Class of 1860, take it up to / his room in the Yard, and in 1893 my brother J.D. Phillips '97 / and myself Stephen W. Phillips '95 hung it in our room / in Weld where it hung till I finished at the Law School in 1898. / I gave it to myh son Stephen Phillips Class of 1929 to hang / in his room in Massachusetts Hall in his senior year. / Stephen W. Phillips. '95. / Salem, Mass. Sept. 27. 1928" (Black ink)
