Framed panel of toile de Jouy entitled "American Independence." The center depicts Lady Liberty sitting in a carriage holding a medicine staff in her right hand and a plaque in her left. George Washington is driving the cart, and it is being pulled by two leopards. Lady Liberty sits beside a tree labeled "LIBERTY TREE" and there are weapons on the ground around it. There is one more complete scene, but it has been cut so that the bottom half is at the top and the top half is at the bottom. The scene depicts Lady Liberty escorting two cherubs who are holding North America in their hands. They are bringing it up to heaven to the Temple of Fame.

"Linen printed in red from copper plate. / Sewed to this was a tag prepared by Miss Caroline / Duncan Sr. as follows: / "This portion of a bed spread was made in Ireland / before 1800 and was the property of Miss Peggy / Duncan and now owned by Caronline Duncan." / Evidently there was originally a bed spread, curtains / and valance for a canopy bed but as only pieces remain/ we divided them among the family and copied the tag. Miss / Peggy Duncan was Mrs. Baldwin, the aunt of James H. Duncan. / These copper plate printed linens are now valuable / as curiosities and this is an unusually fine piece. / Executors of Caroline Duncan. October 12, 1917" (handwritten)
