Pedestrians read items in the window of Damrell & Upham, a publisher, bookseller and news agent in the Book Store building. Two horse-drawn vehicles can be seen on School Street. Streetcar tracks can be seen on Washington Street. In addition to the bookstore, signs for a number of businesses are visible, including a wood engraving company, a rubber goods repair shop, and several signs offering loans.
