Highlights from the furniture collection: Robert Crossman was a drummaker from Taunton, Massachusetts. About a dozen chests and boxes attributed to him survive, a number with painted dates ranging from 1729 to 1742. This is thought to be a particularly early example of his work. It was a prized belonging of renowned fork art collectors Bertrum and Nina Fletcher Little and ornaments the guest bedroom at their summer home, Cogswell's Grant.
Typed jelly jar label on inner left side of drawer: ""Decorated box made by Robert Crossman[sic] of Taunton. Desc. in Macomber fam. of Taunton untill[sic] sold at auction by Herbert Macomber, Executor. It remained in Taunton till 1954.""
