Description

Hatbox (A): A six-sided form with cotter-pin hinged lid withd applied flat molding at edges; top of box lined with newsprint dated June 10, 1795, inscribed "Sold by Benjamin Russell, State Street, Boston," the base of box lined with a 1792 Newport theatre play bill; box painted reddish-brown, of nail construction, withd brass hanging ring at top. Hat (B): Box contains a black felt tricorne hat with single black faille cockade with faceted jet button at center (other cockade missing); glazed linen lining.
