Mantelpiece: delicately molded pilasters and caps; broad, plain frieze; deep mantelshelf molded underneath. Overmantel: one wide raised field panel over a slim raised field panel, surmounted by a molded cornice.

Plaque on frieze says: ""This mantel piece and the panel above it were taken from the Dining Room of the old Holmes house, Cambridge, Mass. just before its removal in 1884. In this historical house the battle of Bunker HIll was planned, Benedict Arnold received his commission and Washington breakfasted several times. Later it was the birthplace of the poet Oliver Wendell Holmes.""
