Description

Five chromolithographs illustrating the Mexican War mounted on canvas roll. From left to right: 1. "General Scott's Grand Entry into the City of Mexico, September 14, 1847"-- Pictures Scott mounted on white horse lifting his hat w/ American soldiers on horseback and wounded Mexican soldiers at their feet. 2. [untitled]-- Battle scene between American soldiers in blue and Mexican soldiers in green w/ building in background. 3. "Storming the Palace Hill at the Battle of Monterey"-- American soldiers on horseback at base of mountain, foot soldiers ascending hill on which stands a fort. Cannon fire issuing from embrasures. 4. "Battle of Buena Vista Fought February 23, 1847"-- Battle scene showing American soldiers defeating Mexican soldiers. Caption details casualties. Mountains, artillery and foot soldiers in background. 5. "Battle of Churubusco near the City of Mexico Aug. 19, 1849"-- Battle scene w/ American foot soldiers on right, 2? American and Mexican soldiers on horseback on right. City of Mexico in background. Caption describes casualties.
