Chippendale-style, mahogany bonnet-top chest-on-chest; undulating oxbow-shaped base; three twisted flame finials. The two ouside finials do not have urns. Segmental arches at the top of the oxbow in the upper most drawer of the base combine crisp edges on the two convex areas with a gradually dissolving arch in the concave center.

The massive form of the chest-on-chest is composed of an upper chest mounted on a lower chest with a base and feet. Several characteristics suggest that this example was likely made in in Boston-the shape of the original flame finials, the crisp edges of the swelled forms of the oxbow on the top drawer of the lower case, the outline of the bracket feet, and the presence of a central drop on the skirt. The towering proportions of chest-on-chests created an imposing presence, ideal for a bedchamber with a high ceiling in a fashionable Georgian-style home in the second half of the eighteenth century.
